About.
Nick Elphick is a passionate visionary who has spent the best part of his artistic career working to better understand human form and the depths of mind.
He works in sculpting and carving, restoration, mould making, casting (stone casting, cold casting and hot casting in metals), technical design, metal fabrication and welding. He is also skilled in fine art and illustration.
Nick Elphick graduated from Loughborough University with a BA Hons in Fine Art Sculpture in 2002 and since then, he has strived to fully develop his techniques and understanding of sculpture.
“I do not just replicate a form but search for a deeper meaning; I want the eye to travel over a piece to stimulate and breathe creativity into the viewer.”
His attention to detail and knowledge of the figurative has gained him a reputation as a perfectionist, a purist, and, of course, a man of notable talent. Nick has been gaining countless headlines and global recognition for his beautifully crafted bronzes.
Renowned artists and celebrities’ have called upon Nick to aid them with their own work.
From the techniques and materials used to the featured characters and understanding of the aesthetics itself, Nick boldly takes on the traditionalist and sticks two figures up. His work is bold, playful, beautifully crafted but with an edge that literally rips through the subconscious of the observer, leaving an irrevocable impression on the psyche.
In his words.
“From a young age, I have been fascinated with the human form and emotions, and how through the language of our expressions, we as people are driven and stimulated. Individual conditions shape society, and society in turn shapes us to conform and wear metaphorical masks. This creative form of communication came before spoken language and led to my fascination in art as an expressive therapy, thus resulting in my studying human anatomy alongside a fine art degree.
My body of work is an ongoing study that looks in-depth at myself and others, using the human form to express strengths and weaknesses, from nurture through to nature. I want the eye to travel over a piece, not only to stimulate but to breathe creativity, so the viewer can resonate and identify with emotional expressions that are silently communicated through a posture or a gesture. The human conditions and psychology of man have run through even my public commissions.”
